Our association is concerned with scientific research of biologic-experimental character, whose purpose is, besides finding the causes which favor the involutional process of ageing, to discover the "fundamental" cause of this process, which is unknown as yet.
Our research is guided by the principles of a new discipline, which is not considered yet by traditional Science: biological Economy, i.e., economy, science of organization, applied to biology. On the basis of the important discoveries of the DNA - as the programmatic and organizational factor of the living matter -and of its "immortality", which was demonstrated by the experiment of the ewe Dolly, it may be assumed that the fundamental cause of ageing is a cause of "organizational" nature, determined by a "biological" contradiction. The importance of biological economy.
Causes which favor ageing
Until now, free radicals, waste products, the shortening of telemer of chromosomes, auto-antibodies have been considered causes of ageing, but actually, they are the consequences of the involutional process, effects of another, still unknown cause, and will worsen and accelerate the involutional process, if not opposed, and may therefore be considered "contributory causes" of the involutional process of ageing.
In any case, prevention is indispensable, in order to combat these "contributory causes".
Prevention
It is important to follow a diet, which respects biological principles, and avoid dammages caused by alcohol, smoke and drugs. A suitable program of physical exercise is also indispensable. Besides, the importance of our "psychological" condition with its far-reaching effects on health must be taken into account , psyche, and last but not least, a healthy entertainment should not be forgotten.
As far as medical prevention is concerned, your doctor should prescribe the indispensable periodical blood and urinanalysises, as well as the following analyses listed below :
blood pressure, ECG, echodoppler of carotid and lower limbs, abdomen and pelvis echography, PAS (for men), and resp., mammography and pap-test (for women), in order to individuate in time any possible "silent" pathologies.
Diet
A prevailingly vegetarian diet is recommended, with fresh vegetables and fruit, rich in vitamines, completed by proteins deriving from fish or low fat dairy products and yoghurt. For seasoning and dressing, above all, it is recommended to use olive oil.
Concerning "slimming diets", it must be said that "do it yourself" programs or casual advice, e.g. from a girl fried who "lost ten kilo in one month" are deleterious. Any slimming diet has to be prescribed by the doctor and must take into consideration the general state of health of the patient.
Physical exercise
No special equipment is necessary, of course, but bear in mind that it is important to stop at the moment the first signs of tiredness appear, which are caused by the lactic acid produced in the muscles. Never forget respiratory gymn, deep inspirations followed by deep expirations, especially at the end of other excercises. Before beginning any agonistic sport activity, it should be remembered that an accurate medical visit is indispensable.
Psyche
Particular attention should be given to the life of the psyche, because of its great influence on the general state of health. At present, "psychosomatic" illnesses are well known, but the great number of "psychoses", diseases of the soul, should also be borne in mind. Special attention should be given to "depression" in consequence of mourning, e.g., the loss of a beloved person, end of working activity, the loss of an animal or simply of an object which the owner was particularly attached to. In particular, in consequence of depression, a decrease of the immunitary defence may appear, and therefore, the organism will be more exposed to pathologies.
As far as social relationships are concerned with, it should not be forgotten that considerable benefits for health are often obtained from relations of sincere friendship, particularly precious in difficult moments which anybody can encounter during his life.
Entertainment and mental activity
Some healthy entertainment should not be ignored, as it has positive effects on general health, is an antidote against the negative psychological consequences of possible difficult circumstances of our intense contemporary life of relationships, and more generally, is of great help against stress.
It is also important to cultivate one's knowledge in all fields. Regarding medicine, a medical encyplopedia should be available, and some time should be dedicated to frequent reading of scientific periodics and other publications, in order to keep informed, especially regarding pathologies which show high mortality rates, e.g., heart and circulation, and tumoral pathologies.
A certain personal engagement in favor of continuous scientific and moral progress of Humanity would also be highly desirable.
